“From 1 October 2020 to 31 December 2023 Eurit took part in the REDiRECT funded project “REDuce REuse Ceramic Tiles”, which had as its objective the creation of a sustainable manufacturing model for the ceramic and mining industry: Circular Enterprise 4.0.

Within the project, Eurit conducted a detailed study of the mining activities, including sustainability analyses, subsequently preparing the complete reactivation of the Buddusò site with the development of Mine 4.0.

Eurit's research activity first focused on the study of eco-efficient mining technologies, in which models regarding the company structure and processes were studied, as well as evaluating the company's environmental, economic, social and technological sustainability and finally Studies are carried out for the recovery of materials deriving from waste and scraps from production processes, in order to increase the circularity of production.

The experimental development activity, started in the second part of the project, led to the digitalisation of the two active mining sites for the production of eurite and rhyolite; this allowed Eurit to accurately monitor production parameters and optimize them. The Buddusò (SS) plant was then reactivated and implemented in which an intrinsically circular raw material is produced: Sardinian iron-free granite. This material derives from the ennoblement, through mining processes, of the processing scraps of the granite stone sector.

Thanks to the integration of company systems with mining processes and the results achieved in the research phase, batches of circular raw materials were produced, thus contributing to the achievement of the final objective of the project, aimed at combining the principles of the circular economy with IoT technologies and Industry 4.0 for the development and validation of Mine 4.0.”
